Wake County Marks Juneteenth With Month of Events

Wake County Government marked Juneteenth by saying the county honors the resilience of formerly enslaved people and the enduring strength of Black communities.

The post said Juneteenth is a day rooted in reclaiming history and declaring dignity for generations past, present and future.

Wake County said that in 2021 it became the first county in North Carolina to recognize Juneteenth as an employee holiday. The government said the recognition came after a unanimous, historic vote.

Wake County also said residents are invited to join Wake County Public Libraries and Wake County Parks for a month of educational and celebratory events. The county directed readers to its news page for details.
