Suspect Arrested After Domestic Dispute, K-9 Attack
Spartanburg Police said officers responded on June 10, 2026, to a domestic violence-related dispute at about 2:30 p.m. Before officers arrived, a male suspect fled the scene in a white pickup truck, according to the department.
Police later located the vehicle in the Cedar Springs area of the city of Spartanburg and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled into Spartanburg County toward Keltner Avenue. Officers said the suspect fled from law enforcement on two separate occasions.
Police then conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The suspect refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle. Officers said they broke a window of the vehicle and deployed K-9 Bruno to help with extracting the driver.
During the encounter, police said K-9 Bruno was cut on the top of his head with a box cutter by the suspect. Bruno was transported for veterinary treatment. The department said his injuries were not considered life-threatening and he was expected to recover.
After the assault, police said the suspect fled again while in the vehicle. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office later located the vehicle and initiated another pursuit. Deputies used a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit. Police said the suspect’s vehicle crashed and he was taken into custody without further incident.
The investigation remains active, and police said additional information, including charges, would be released as it becomes available.
Major Littlejohn said the officers, investigators, the K-9 team and partners with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office acted with professionalism and teamwork. He also thanked staff for Bruno’s care and said the incident showed the dedication of the people serving the community.
Spartanburg police encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the department.
